DAVID HENDERSON

FOUNDER

As the founder of our gym, David is an experienced personal trainer and coach with over 14 years of expertise. As a West End resident for the past 8 years, he is passionate about introducing a new fitness community to this vibrant neighbourhood. From training clients with physical and development disabilities to coaching professional athletes, David has a diverse range of experience. His goal-oriented approach in both personal and group training sessions reflects his commitment to improving both physical and mental health. AIMEE HENDERSON

FOUNDER & GENERAL MANAGER

As the co-founder and general manager of Denman Athletics, Aimee brings 15 years of expertise in psychology and behaviour change. Aimee’s holistic approach to health considers not only physical well-being but also mental, social, and nutritional needs. By assessing your behaviour and thought patterns, she helps redesign them to create lasting lifestyle changes that enhance your overall quality of life.

NICOLE ROONEY

OPERATIONS MANAGER

As operations manager, Nicole works behind the scenes, ensuring that everything runs smoothly and seamlessly. With a passion for fitness (mainly Gaelic football – an Irish sport) and a knack for organizational efficiency, Nicole plays a pivotal role in shaping the experience of every member who walks through our doors.

At Denman Athletics, our members are at the heart of everything we do, and Nicole embodies this principle wholeheartedly. Always approachable and attentive to member feedback, Nicole strives to continuously improve our services and facilities.

OUR COACHES

RACHAEL UROSEVIC

HEAD COACH

Coach Rachael grew up playing competitive basketball which she competed in for 15 years. She played for Queen’s University while completing her undergraduate degree in English Language and Literature. She found the sport of CrossFit during the offseason in 2012 and began coaching a variety of group classes by the summer of 2014. This included sport-specific PTs, youth classes and Olympic lifting. Rachael has experience coaching adults and youth of all backgrounds and skill levels which has inspired her learning of new training styles and methodologies over the years.

Since 2022, to fully feel like a Vancouverite, she began her trail running journey. If you don’t see her picking up heavy things, she is probably frolicking in a forest preparing for an upcoming event that she has equal nerves and excitement about.

Coach Rachael holds her CF-L2 and CF-OLY Level 1, amongst other certifications.

MATHEUS PERUCCI

PERSONAL TRAINER & GROUP COACH

Coach Matheus is originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He holds a degree in Physical Education and is CrossFit Level 2 certified, having also completed an Olympic weightlifting seminar with Dmitry Klokov. With over 10 years of experience in strength and conditioning, Matheus is dedicated to helping his clients achieve health and wellness, ensuring they are pain-free and ready to live their lives to the fullest.

Matheus has been passionate about sports from a young age, he has been surfing since the age of 12. This early commitment to surfing laid the foundation for his training approach today. Now, he brings that same focus to his training, pushing hard and helping others do the same.

SEAN DUFFIELD MATSUO

PERSONAL TRAINER & GROUP COACH

Coach Sean brings an international background to Denman Athletics, having lived in Japan for 10 years before moving to Vancouver to complete his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology at UBC. He has been in and around gyms since the age of 13 and has always had a deep passion for exercise and the science behind it. Outside of coaching, Sean researches the neurophysiological aspects of rehabilitation interventions for spinal cord injury populations at a lab in the International Collaboration on Repair Discoveries.

Sean’s coaching philosophy centers on guiding clients through a collaborative, client-focused approach. His goal is to provide the support and structure people need to pursue their health and fitness authentically – whether that means hitting a new deadlift personal best or building the confidence and strength to get up off the floor with ease.

He has explored a wide range of training modalities, including CrossFit, Olympic weightlifting, bodybuilding, and running. Sean also holds a CrossFit Level 1 (CF-L1) certification.

KARL TRONCHE

PERSONAL TRAINER & GROUP COACH

Coach Karl is originally from Paris, France. A former college football athlete and certified strength & conditioning coach, he brings experience working with both competitive athletes and general population clients. Before joining Denman Athletics, Karl coached and led performance training for the men’s and women’s soccer and futsal teams at Portage College, Alberta.

He holds a law degree, a business diploma, and certifications in personal training, strength & conditioning, and nutrition. With three years of coaching experience—and a lifetime of training both himself and others—Karl specializes in athletic development, speed and power training, and designing efficient, individualized programs that help clients perform and feel their best.
